A soda tax is being credited by a University of Illinois study for a 22% drop in sugary beverage sales since Seattle imposed the measure in January 2018, according to a KUOW-TV report.
Jim Krieger, a clinical professor University Washington, said the tax is accomplishing its goal of reducing soda consumption.
The study, published in the "Journal Economics and Human Biology," also found soda sales declined 10% in Portland, which has no such tax.
