The story on Vox.com that purported to expose skill cranes as "rigged" has gone viral. As of today, hundreds of websites have either linked directly to the story and video, or referenced it in original online features.
Interestingly, the list of publications covering the claw machine is diverse and international. It includes Seventeen and Smithsonian, along with the UK's Daily Mail and BBC News. The YouTube video (see below), which accompanied the story, has received nearly two million views to date.
The stories have also bridged some seemingly insurmountable political and cultural divides with links and stories on such websites as Right Wing News and the Drudge Report, as well as Democratic Underground and HipHop Stoners.
