Starbucks will begin deploying the Clover Vertica single-cup brewer to its stores beginning this year, the company announced at its recent annual meeting.

Rachel Ruggeri, executive vice president and chief financial officer, announced the launch of Clover Vertica, described as a "new proprietary single cup, on-demand brewer," according to the press release.

Clover Vertica uses a patented process that combines vacuum-press technology with precise control over the temperature of the water and length of brew.

The company will deploy the brewers to stores in Minneapolis as well as the Starbucks Reserve Roasteries and stores in the U.S. beginning this month. The brewer will continue to arrive in more stores this fall, with plans to have the machine in all company-operated stores in the U.S. by 2025.

Starbucks acquired the original Clover brewing system with its acquisition of The Coffee Equipment Co. based in Seattle, which it announced in 2008.

At the time of the announcement, Starbucks CEO, President and Chairman Howard Schultz said the Clover machine delivers the best cup of brewed coffee he has ever tasted.

In 2013, the company announced it had installed Clover brewers in 500 stores with plans to double that number in 2014.
