Disney's holiday blockbuster "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has surpassed "Frozen" at the worldwide box office, finishing Wednesday with $1.29 billion to move up the list of all-time top-grossing films to No. 8, not accounting for inflation, the Hollywood Reporter reported.
"Frozen," also from Disney, earned $1.28 billion globally after opening in late 2013.
The "Force Awakens" also passed Marvel's "The Avengers" ($623.4 million), another Disney hit, to take the No. 4 spot on the all-time domestic chart, as well as becoming Disney's top-grossing film ever.
In related news, Star Wars-themed prize merchandise is expected to be a big draw at family entertainment centers this holiday season and beyond. BMI Merchandise timed the introduction of its Star Wars line to coincide with the movie release. | SEE STORY
