October 7, 2021

The University of South Florida is installing six recycling machines for plastic bottles and aluminum cans while supporting Feed-A-Bull Food Pantry, according to a report in The Oracle, the student newspaper.

For each plastic bottle or aluminum can, Coca-Cola will donate 5 cents to the pantry, up to $5,000 per year, according to Nancy Santiago, auxiliary services director.

Each machine will evaluate if the cans and bottles deposited meet its standards. If so, the machine will crush and store the container. The machine will reject containers that don't meet the standards.

The initiative is part of the university's Coca Cola contract and will begin in the spring semester.

Four machines will be placed on the Tampa campus and two at St. Petersburg.
