A book vending machine has been installed at a Piggly Wiggly located in Neeses, South Carolina, according to a report from wltx.com.

A book vending machine has been installed at a Piggly Wiggly grocery store located in Neeses, South Carolina, according to a report from wltx.com.

The initiative came about from a partnership between the Orangeburg County School District and the Carolina Family Engagement Center at the University of South Carolina.

Children are able to visit the Piggly Wiggly for a coin to unlock a free book from the vending machine.

"When the schools and families, caregivers and the community come together around students to support student learning, that's when we all win," Laurann Patel, family engagement liaison at the Carolina Family Engagement Center, told the news outlet. "Because students get that support from every part of their life, whether they are going to the grocery store or the library, or the school and class or church, wherever it may be. They're having that community support around them and that helps them learn and helps them grow into wonderful adults."
