GAITHERSBURG, MD -- Sodexo said it has been awarded a four-year vending and foodservice contract with the U.S. House of Representatives. The contract begins on Aug. 10.

Awarded by the House Chief Administrative Office, the agreement includes management of foodservice operations for all House cafeterias, catering and vending machines. Sodexo replaces Restaurant Associates, which continues to provide foodservice to the Senate and the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center.

Sodexo said its House foodservice program will emphasize convenience, nutrition and quality and will include the latest procurement systems and retail sales technology.

Sodexo operates and manages food service for a number of government agencies in the Washington, DC, area, including the Depts. of Transportation, Defense, Interior and U.S. Patent and Trade Office. Around the world, it provides foodservice for the U.S. military, federal agencies, first responders and dignitaries.

"Sodexo has served U.S. government clients for more than 40 years and it is one of the only large-scale companies in the industry to have a division dedicated to government agencies," said Sodexo president of government services David Scanlan. "It's an incredible honor that we now have the opportunity to serve the entire U.S. House of Representatives community, including members of Congress, staff and visitors numbering some 10,000 people daily."
