Sodexo, a Paris-based foodservice contractor, plans to cut 2,083 jobs as part of a financial restructuring on account of COVID-19, according to a Reuters report.
The company said the COVID-19 crisis has hit catering activity at companies, schools, universities and events, and that the development of trends such as home working and meal deliveries has accelerated strongly.
Sodexo France announced a project of an employment protection plan project in France which would involve 2,083 positions mostly in the corporate services segment in France, Nathalie Lambert, media relations and issues management group communications spokesperson, said in an email to Vending Times.
"This reorganization is the result of in-depth reflection of the company, which must address major changes in our business activity and respond to long-term structural challenges," Lambert said. "Sodexo will continue to develop its offerings and adapt its production and operating models. These developments will make it possible to better combine new market expectations while retaining all of its activities and expertise in services."
The 2,083 jobs equate to less than 7% of Sodexo's workforce, according to the Reuters report.
