Young people planning to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee next week will have a chance to test their skills at a vending machine in New York City, according to a press release.

On Wednesday, the Hillshire Farm Snacked! snack pack machine will be placed on Fifth Avenue in the Flatiron District from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The "pay with words" machine will announce a word, then "listen" as the contestant spells it on the touchscreen keypad.

If the word is spelled correctly, the machine will dispense a Hillshire Farm Snacked! Snack pack, consisting of a cheese, meat and sweet treat.

On May 30 and 31, it will move to the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., the site of the National Spelling Bee.

The machine selects words of varying difficulty.

The Spelling Bee will host 234 spellers from May 31 to June 2 for the national rounds, the first fully in-person Bee since 2019.

Hillshire Farm Snacked! brand and Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Series have signed on as premier sponsors of the 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
