ROME, Italy -- Nes Italia says it has developed a system that that allows workplace refreshment providers to remotely check inventories in breakroom pantries, as well as commercial and domestic kitchens. The SmartQsine employs several small pads on which operators place goods that they want to monitor. A smartphone app provides an alert when an item is running low.
The Italian company explained that the pads communicate in the background with the application and continuously update how much of each item placed on each pad is in stock, compared with its par level.
The operator can check the app from anywhere to know if a certain item needs to be replenished or purchased. The app can be set to alert the operator if a product is below a certain level, or to automatically notify a third party to purchase or refill the items in the pantry.
Nes Italia launched SmartQsine at last January's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. A crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo is set to go live this month, which the company hopes will sustain the costs of tooling cost and starting production.
"We believe that SmartQsine will represent the first step towards an easier management of pantries, both for a house and a professional setup, and will open the door to a new generation of vending machines," the company said.
