DES MOINES, IA -- Smart Industries said that it has made several technical and esthetic upgrades to its skill crane lines. At the center of Smart's upgrades is a new CPU that is more compact and powerful than its predecessor.
The new CPU, according to the machine manufacturer, enhances a crane's digital infrastructure by providing easier and more efficient programming for operators. The circuit board is accessed through the machine's front panel and has a 1.25" x 1" LCD, which functions as a service for operators. A four-button display replaces an antiquated DIP switch arrangement, allowing operators to simply scroll through a menu display and press buttons to change settings.
"We've carried the previous system since 2004," said Smart's Jim Dupree. "Operators are looking for easier access and enhanced control. Our new system definitely provides better controls with easier access."
Smart has also made notable exterior improvements to its cranes, beginning with the player console that is now outfitted with a 3" W. x 1-3/4" H. LCD. Additionally, it has replaced all cabinet lighting, including the fluorescent overheads, with energy-efficient, long-lasting LEDs; lighting improvements are evident on exterior displays, as well as the corner and joystick areas. Corners now feature multicolored LED displays whose speed and pattern can be adjusted. "This represents an improvement over the previous use of traditional rope lighting," Dupree said.
"Right now we're rolling the innovations out with the My Little Ducky crane, but all of the crane models will have the new features by summer's end," Dupree reported. Those models include the Toy Chest (in black, yellow and white), Pirates Chest, Candy Crane House, Prize Time Deluxe and Ticket Time.
"We've made cranes longer than any company in America, and we're always looking where things are heading," Dupree said. "Now, as always, we want to provide the most reliable and up to date components for the operator. So these upgrades are in keeping with the Smart philosophy."
