Some low income families in Singapore will receive an allotment of free, ready-to-cook chicken from a vending machine provided by food charity Free Food For All, according to a report in The Straight Times.
The machine will benefit 150 low-income families in a certain area and was rolled out in conjunction with World Kindness Day on Nov 13.
Each household receives a prepaid card that covers the cost of seven packets of 200 grams of frozen marinated chicken per month from the machine. The card automatically tops up at the start of the month.
The machine offers marinades such as soy garlic and pepper teriyaki in addition to chicken parts like breast meat and wings.
The initiative is supported by Chong Pang Community Club and complements a community refrigerator launched in the same area in January 2020.
The refrigerator is stocked weekly with vegetables, fruits and other items provided by an online grocery store as a waste reduction measure.
