Sidney, Ohio has unveiled a vending machine offering free supplies including Narcan, fentanyl test strips, pregnancy tests, COVID and flu tests, hygiene products and more, according to a report by Sidney Daily News. It is located outside the Sidney-Shelby County Health Department.
The city obtained the machine and supplies through the Integrated Harm Reduction Grant via the Ohio Department of Health. The state supplied the test strips and Narcan.
"We partner with Allen County for the STD program, so they provide us all the condoms for free, so that's not included in the grant," Erica Lentz, Sidney-Shelby County health commissioner, said in the report.
She added that the city stocked the machine with supplies that citizens commonly ask the health department for.
"We actually get a lot of people that come in looking for different supplies. Narcan is a big one, and it's not people that are using necessarily, it's the family members that come in," she said. "We were just trying to stock it with things that people come in and routinely ask for."
