Father Joe's Villages, a San Diego-based homeless support organization, has installed vending machines offering xylazine test strips, wound care kits and naloxone to combat the rise of xylazine-related overdoses, according to a Good Good Good report. Xylazine, an animal tranquilizer known as "tranq," has infiltrated the drug supply in 48 states, often mixed with fentanyl, making overdoses even more dangerous.

The test strips allow individuals to detect xylazine in substances, enabling them to make informed choices about drug use. The vending machines, accessible 24/7, aim to reduce harm and provide life-saving resources to vulnerable populations.

Jennifer Wilkens, manager of street health for Father Joe's Villages, emphasized the importance of these resources, telling the news outlet, "Clearly promoted access to these supplies reminds people that they are seen and their lives and the lives of their loved ones are valued."
