Royce Alton Green Jr Dies At 80

GEORGETOWN, SC -- Coin machine veteran Royce Alton Green Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC, died on June 18, following a lengthy illness, at the Tidelands Hospice here. He was 80.

Green was involved in the amusement industry throughout most of his life. He was the owner of Sun Fun Amusement Park, which operated from 1970 to 1986, and Green Coin Machines, a jukebox and amusement machine distributor. He had served as president of the South Carolina Coin Operators Association, and was highly regarded as an effective industry leader and spokesman.

The industry icon was the patriarch of a large and extended family, with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His son RA Green III is a past-president of the Amusement and Music Operators Association.

"We are grateful to all who visited 'Big Daddy' during the years of his illness, and to those who cared for him at NHC [Healthcare] in Murrells Inlet and at Tidelands Hospice in Georgetown," the family said.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Andrews, SC. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, at Goldfinch Funeral Home in Murrells Inlet.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested that memorial gifts be made to Tidelands Hospice, 2591 N. Fraser St., Georgetown, SC 29440; Surfside Methodist Church, 800 13th Ave. North, Surfside Beach, SC 29575; Trinity UMC, 205 S. Rosemary Ave., Andrews, SC 20510; or Tara Hall Home for Boys, 510 Tara Hall Rd., Georgetown, SC 29440.
