An initiative utilizing reverse vending machines has arrived in Sudbury, offering financial rewards to encourage recycling, according to a Suffolk News report. Kingfisher Leisure Centre is the latest location in Suffolk to join the Trovr West Suffolk recycling trial with the installation of a new machine.
The scheme, spearheaded by Trovr in collaboration with West Suffolk Council, allows individuals to deposit bottles and cans into the machine and receive redeemable points via the Trovr app. These points can then be used at participating retailers.
Warren Smyth, chief executive of Abbeycroft, noted the popularity of the existing machines at other leisure centers, telling the news outlet that it "made perfect sense to have another machine installed at Kingfisher."
Across the seven participating locations in Suffolk, over 16,000 items have been recycled through the Trovr machines. West Suffolk Councillor Janne Jarvis believes these machines can be central to a significant increase in recycling rates in the U.K., drawing comparisons to higher rates seen in European countries with similar schemes.
