Proposed DC soda tax withdrawn

The sponsor of a proposal to add a 1.5-cent-per-ounce excise tax on sugary beverages in Washington, D.C. has withdrawn the measure due to in sufficient support, according to a wtop.com report.

Council member Brianne Nadeau withdrew the measure, saying there was insufficient support to move the bill forward.

The Alliance for an Affordable D.C., a coalition of community leaders, neighborhood groups, residents and small-business owners, opposed the measure.
