The food safety law firm Pritzker Hageman, P.A., is investigating a Listeria monocytogenes outbreak linked to ready-to-eat sandwiches and snacks distributed by Fresh & Ready Foods.
At least 10 people in California and Nevada have been hospitalized as of May 2025. Health officials anticipate additional cases may be reported due to the potentially long incubation period of Listeria, according to a press release
Pritzker Hageman stated public health officials found six individuals became ill while already hospitalized, and records confirmed that Fresh & Ready Foods products were served in at least three of these facilities.
"People shouldn't have to worry that the food they're served in a place of care could make them sicker," attorney Raymond Trueblood, who leads Pritzker Hageman's Nevada injury legal team, said in the release. "The people affected by this outbreak deserve answers, and we're here to help them hold those responsible accountable."
Fresh & Ready Foods issued a recall on May 10, 2025, for sandwiches and snack items with "use by" dates ranging from April 22 through May 19, 2025. These products were distributed in Arizona, California, Nevada and Washington and were sold through retail stores, vending machines and food service locations, including hospitals.
Pritzker Hageman emphasized the particular danger of Listeria infections for vulnerable populations such as older adults, immunocompromised patients, and pregnant women.
Fresh & Ready Foods did not immediately respond to request for comment.
