A primary school in Stowmarket, England has been gifted a book vending machine by the Mid Suffolk Rotary Club, according to a Stowmarket Mercury report.

The machine dispenses books to students as a way to promote reading and good behavior.

Rotary officials believe the machine can help address declining reading rates among children, particularly those who prefer electronic devices to traditional books.

"Parents often have difficulty in persuading their children to take their eyes off electronic screens," a Mid Suffolk Rotary spokesperson told the news outlet. "Book vending machines are a novel way of getting children to take up reading again. The child gets a token and chooses a book to take home and read. Once they are done, they can bring it back and get another token to choose another book to read."
