Piestro, an automated pizza startup, has teamed with Kwibot, a robotics provider, to offer consumers a touchless, contactless pizza delivery experience, according to a press release. The partnership comes following a fundraising campaign on the crowdfunding platform StartEngine.
Launched in July, Piestro drove investor interest for its ability to automate the pizza cooking process to three minutes, and a standalone pizzeria model to make artisan quality pies available in public spaces, according to the press release. With a press of a button, consumers are able to watch a pizza with fresh ingredients cooked in front of their eyes.
The solution is designed to allow pizzeria operators to expand their takeout reach and provide an entry point for new operators.
The automated pizzeria will now come integrated with a dispensing and delivery mechanism, allowing for contactless delivery, further limiting the potential for customer exposure to harmful pathogens.
The order is registered with Kiwibot and a bot is deployed to a Piestro location, where the pizza is made. An autonomous vehicle then picks up the pizza and delivers it to the consumer, creating a fully contactless experience from the time the pizza is made to the moment in hand. When the customer orders through their app, the Kiwibot goes to the Piestro machine, picks up the pizza and heads to the delivery address while the customer gets a push notification to meet the bot. Only the customer can unlock the Kiwibot to access the food.
The lead investor, Wavemaker Partners, is a global venture capital fund and its studio, Wavemaker Labs, focuses on automation.
Piestro will open a second funding campaign on StartEngine.
