PURCHASE, NY – The PepsiCo Foundation, the beverage giant's charitable arm, said it will donate $2 million to support relief and recovery efforts in Mexico City following the 7.1 earthquake that struck on Sept. 19, as well as in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, which was devastated by Hurricane Maria a day later.
The foundation is donating $1 million to the American Red Cross and $1 million to the Pan American Development Foundation to rebuild greater disaster-resilient communities in the Mexico City area and in Puerto Rico. Together with these contributions, PepsiCo and the PepsiCo Foundation have contributed more than $6.5 million for disaster relief over the past month.
PepsiCo Mexico and its bottler partner Gepp have also donated more than 7,000 liters of water to the Mexico City community. They have reportedly already donated 31 tons of snack products and more than 12,000 liters of waters to communities affected by the earthquake in Mexico.
In the U.S., PepsiCo said it has donated more than 107,500 cases of beverages and four dozen pallets of snacks. With its bottler partner, Cerveceria Nacional Dominicana, PepsiCo also provided 300,000 liters of water to the Dominican Republic, British Virgin Islands, Turks and Caicos, Tortola and St. Maarten.
