Pepperdine University's Student Government Association has approved $6,000 in funding for a new vending machine at the Student Health Center, designed to dispense over-the-counter medications, hygiene products and other essential health items, according to a report in the Pepperdine University Graphic news publication.

The machine will provide students with 24/7 access to basic care supplies, addressing gaps in availability outside regular health center hours.

Student leaders said the Malibu, Calif.-based university's health center will manage inventory and sourcing, allowing products to be sold at lower prices than those typically found at the campus bookstore. The initiative positions the vending machine as both a convenience solution and a cost-control measure, leveraging the health center's purchasing capabilities. Contraceptives will not be included among the items offered.

Before installation, the project must clear administrative and technical hurdles, including contract approval and the setup of a separate Wi-Fi network for cybersecurity compliance. University officials aim to have the machine operational before the next academic year, signaling growing interest in vending-based access to essential goods on college campuses.
