Pennsylvania's DuBois Area School District plans to install a breakfast vending machine at DuBois Area High School to improve student access to morning meals, according to a Courier Express report.

Superintendent Wendy Benton announced the initiative during a recent school board meeting, explaining that the refrigerated machine will hold up to 95 breakfasts and provide free meals to students between 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. each school day. The goal is to ensure students who arrive late, miss the traditional breakfast period or did not eat at home still have access to a nutritious meal.

After the breakfast service period ends, the machine will switch to selling beverages from 9 a.m. until 7 a.m. the following day, allowing the equipment to remain in use throughout the school day and evening hours. District officials say the program is part of a broader effort to address childhood hunger and support student wellness by making healthy food more accessible.

Food service staff are currently being trained to operate the equipment, and the district hopes to have the vending machine operational later in March. School leaders say the project reflects their commitment to innovative solutions that support students' health, readiness to learn and overall well-being.
