Pennsylvania grocer expands into meat vending

Smithmyer's Superette, a grocery store in Loretto, Pennsylvania, has expanded into the meat vending business, according to an Altoona Mirror report.

The company has installed dedicated, refrigerated meat machines in two local businesses, McAneny Brothers in Ebensburg and Jennmar in Cresson, and is expanding to more locations in Cambria County.

The machines are in employee break rooms offering items ranging from $6.95 for six beef sticks to $7.95 for a half pound of jerky.

The company worked with a machine manufacturer to build a glassfront machine which accepts both cash and payment cards and can be remotely monitored.
