Omaha, Nebraska launched its second emergency contraception vending machine this month. The first vending machine opened just under a month ago at the Nebraska AIDS Project in Benson, according to a KETV 7 news report.
The Women's Fund of Omaha debuted the machines to improve access to reproductive healthcare. "We believe this is the first public space for emergency contraception in our country," Jo Giles, executive director of the Women's Fund of Omaha, told the news outlet. "We're just trying to remove barriers for people. And also increase access."
The vending machine allows people to purchase emergency contraception for only $8 or a pregnancy test for only $3, according to the news outlet. It's accessibility, Giles said, is more important now than ever.
