The Rochester Academy of Science in Rochester, New York, has introduced a STEM- focused vending machine designed to provide students with hands-on learning tools instead of traditional snacks, according to a WHAM News report.
The machine dispenses items such as robotics kits, engineering challenges and coding activities, giving students access to materials that support science, technology, engineering and math education.
Rochester Academy of Science is a hands-on STEM-focused K-12 school that emphasizes innovation, creativity and experiential learning for students. School leaders said the initiative is intended to remove barriers to innovation by making high-quality, interactive learning resources readily available.
Principal David McBride said students may initially expect typical vending items but will quickly become engaged once they explore the contents. The machine is part of the school's broader "imagineering" initiative, which will expand with the addition of a LEGO lab later this year.
