PURCHASE, NY -- PepsiCo chief executive Indra K. Nooyi will step down after 12 years at the helm of the beverage and snack giant. Ramon Laguarta, 54, PepsiCo's president, will succeed her effective Oct. 3, becoming the company's sixth chief executive in its 53-year history.

"Growing up in India, I never imagined I'd have the opportunity to lead such an extraordinary company," Nooyis said. "PepsiCo today is in a strong position for continued growth with its brightest days still ahead."

Under Nooyi's leadership, the company said it grew net revenue from $35 billion in 2006 to $63.5 billion in 2017. Nooyi, 62, will remain chairman until early 2019.

Laguarta has held a number of executive and general management roles in his 22 years at PepsiCo. With Nooyi's departure, the rest of PepsiCo's senior leadership team will remain unchanged.
