The Navy Exchange Service Command has opened its 100th NEX Micro Market at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia, according to a DVIDS report. The self-service, self-checkout market is located in unaccompanied housing and is available 24/7 to serve over 1,300 enlisted sailors.
The micro market offers a variety of fresh, healthy food options, including salads, sandwiches, fruit and yogurt, as well as snacks, beverages and essential health, wellness and cleaning supplies. This location-specific assortment is designed to meet the immediate needs of the sailors living there.
"As a worldwide Navy command, NEXCOM is always in lockstep with the needs of the fleet," Retired Rear Adm. Robert J. Bianchi, CEO of NEXCOM told the news outlet. "Our core mission is to enable warfighter readiness and enhance Navy quality of life for our men and women in uniform who are out there defending our freedom."
NEX Micro Markets are deployed in Navy facilities globally, including hospitals, barracks and aircraft hangars, providing convenient food and essential items in locations with limited dining options. The first market opened in 2015, and the program has since expanded to include self-service locations on some Navy ships.
