The Tompkins County Public Library has taken a proactive step in addressing the opioid crisis by installing a Narcan vending machine, according to a WXXI report. The machine, funded by opioid settlement funds, provides free access to the lifesaving medication, which can reverse opioid overdoses.
"We specifically picked a spot that was both easy to get to and kind of close to the front of the library, but also a little bit discreet, so that people don't feel any pressure about coming here and getting that Narcan," Sasha Rafflour, library assistant and project manager, told the news outlet.
In addition to the vending machine, the library will offer monthly training sessions on Narcan usage and provides free fentanyl testing strips.
