New York lawmakers seek to adjust vending product tax exemption

The New York State Assembly has introduced a bill to protect tax exempt status for certain food and beverage products in a vending machine, according to the National Automatic Merchandising Association weekly legislative wrap-up.

The bill, A9491, adjusts the exemption threshold from $2 to $2.50 through May 2025.

A similar measure, S8330, was introduced to the state senate in February.

The exemption is scheduled to expire May 31 unless the lawmakers pass these measures.
