The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse has replaced plastic products aluminum options in its vending machines, beginning spring 2021, after signing the #breakfreefromplastic campus pledge as part of an effort to remove all single-use plastic items, according to a report in The Daily Orange.

Gatorade and milk have been removed altogether.

Susan Fassler, sustainable facilities manager at ESF, said aluminum can be recycled more easily than plastic as it can be recycled back to beverage cans. Plastic bottles, by comparison, are often downcycled to lesser items and can usually only once.
