Nestlé Japan has deployed vending machines called "food loss reduction boxes" to battle food waste in collaboration with Minatoku Corp., a food loss solutions company, according to a Japan Today report.

The five machines deployed across three different prefectures will offer Kit Kat candy, Nescafe Excella instant coffee sticks and bottled coffee, and instant Nescafe Uji milk tea, Hojicha latte and matcha latte.

Customers purchase items by accessing the Minatoku website and selecting their location. The machine will dispense a one-time security code they can input after scanning a QR code on the machine.
