WASHINGTON -- The National Restaurant Association's executive vice-president of policy and government affairs today issued a statement regarding the Supreme Court's decision not to hear the appeal NRA filed last year concerning the Federal Reserve's inflated debit swipe fees.

"We are disappointed in the Supreme Court's decision not to hear our appeal. Inflated swipe fees are a serious business concern for restaurant operators and the business community at large," said NRA's Scott DeFife.

"Allowing higher fees on low-ticket bills was not the intent of Congress and an unintended consequence of the Federal Reserve's flawed implementation of the law," the association official added. "We will continue to fight for a solution and hope the Federal Reserve will exercise its existing authority to reconcile this and ensure the major card brands cannot continue to levy exorbitant debit card fees on restaurateurs nationwide."
