Guam Behavioral Health is responding to an influx of fentanyl from the U.S. by installing a free Narcan vending machine outside of its health and wellness center, according to a KUAM News report.
Since the vending machine's installation in March, 383 kits have been used by the community. Guam Behavioral Health plans to offer more vending machines across the island to increase access to the potentially life-saving drug.
"Naloxone is not only for fentanyl. It's for all opiates, it's an antagonist for all opiates," Carissa Pangelinan, acting director of Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center, told the news outlet.
"And we want to make it clear that just like in the United States, where they're seeing this opiate misuse, Guam is also seeing that. So it's important to come here and, get the supplies if you know of people, if you're worried about your family… and all your loved ones, please come and get [supplies]."
