Two Narcan vending machines have launched on Hilo, Hawai'i, according to a Big Island Now report.
The vending machines are located at the Hulihia Ke Ola Detox Clinic and the Outpatient Facility/Wellness Center and were installed by the Big Island Substance Abuse Council.
"These types of vending machines are rare but sorely needed on Hawaiʻi Island," Dr. Hannah Preston-Pita, chief executive officer of the Big Island Substance Abuse Council, told the news outlet. "The frightening reality is that Hawaiʻi Island averages one overdose death every eight days. (The Big Island Substance Abuse Council) is taking action and making Narcan available to anyone who needs it for free."
