The National Automatic Merchandising Association unveiled a plan for the succession of its president and CEO, Carla Balakgie. Balakgie, who joined NAMA in 2012, will retire from full-time association management by the end of 2025, according to a press release. During her tenure, NAMA experienced significant growth, including the rise of micro markets and the relocation of the association's headquarters to Washington, D.C.
NAMA Chair Tom Steuber praised Balakgie's leadership. "Carla Balakgie has fundamentally changed NAMA for the better over the past 14 years," he said in the release. Steuber highlighted the increased industry advocacy, improved financial standing and enhanced member engagement under Balakgie's leadership. A search committee, led by NAMA Chair-Elect Patrick Moran has been formed to identify and select the next president and CEO. Balakgie will remain involved throughout the search and onboarding process to ensure a smooth transition.
Balakgie, a Fellow of the American Society of Association Executives and the first woman to lead NAMA, expressed her pride in serving the convenience services industry. "Serving the great companies and individuals of the convenience services industry during this important period has been the most fulfilling experience of my career," she said in the release. Balakgie emphasized the industry's bright future and expressed excitement for its continued success.
