Mussel vending machine debuts in The Netherlands

A mussel growing business in Yerseke in The Netherlands has installed a refrigerated vending machine that offers fresh mussels, allowing 24/7 access to mussels in atmosphere modified packs, according to a seafoodsource.com report.

The machine, which has 45 compartments, was conceived by members of the Steketee family who have been growing mussels in the Oosterschelde region for decades.

The Dutch Mussel Bureau leased the machine with a EUR 25,000 ($29,000) grant from the European Union to promote mussels.
