U.S. supermarkets are stocking up on snack foods as a labor strike at Mondelez International stretches into its fourth week, according to a Wall Street Journal report
Supermarkets nationwide fear of shortages of Premium saltines, Ritz crackers, Chips Ahoy and Oreos and are stocking up on alternatives.
Union workers at a Mondelez bakery in Portland, Oregon began the strike on Aug. 10 and it has since extended to more bakeries and distribution facilities.
A company spokesperson told Vending Times there is a robust business continuity plan in place to continue to meet the needs of retail customers and consumers and that each of the affected sites (three bakeries and three sales distribution facilities) where there is strike activity are operational, producing product and supporting distribution.
