CHICAGO -- Micromarket legislation has become law in the state of Michigan. On Mar. 27, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder signed the bill passed by the state's legislature containing micromarket clarification language that was proposed by the Michigan Distributors and Vendors Association, a National Automatic Merchandising Association state council.
"Like many industries, ours is rapidly evolving, and we are being asked for new ways to provide products to our customers -- micromarkets are one of those ways for us to do so," said NAMA board chair elect and chairman and chief executive of All Star Services (Port Huron, MI). "This legislation is important because it is a proactive measure that clarifies the micromarket concept and will ensure that Michigan operators can continue to expand their business endeavors in the micromarket space. We are pleased to be joining the ranks of other state councils that have pursued this issue on behalf of the industry, paving the way for micromarkets to be treated similarly -- from a regulatory and/or legislative perspective -- across the country."
The bill was granted "immediate effect," which rendered it effective upon Gov. Snyder's signature. The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will have oversight of the implementation of the legislation.
