Michigan bowling centers sue state over COVID-19 losses

Five bowling centers are suing the state of Michigan to recover losses caused by the state's COVID-19 shutdown, according to an mlive.com report.

Attorney David Kallman filed the lawsuit Wednesday in federal court following a press conference at Royal Scot Golf and Bowl in Lansing.

The suit names Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and its director, Robert Gordon, as defendants.

A spokesman from the state attorney general's office said a response will be provided once the lawsuit has been served.

The plaintiffs include:

  • Roll Haven Skating Center, Flint, with 51 employees, usually has $800,000 in annual revenue.
  • Spartan West Bowling Center/Beamers Restaurant, Ludington, with 12 employees, usually has $460,000 in annual revenue.
  • Royal Scot Golf & Bowl, Lansing, with 90 employees, usually has $4.4 million in annual revenue.
  • Fremont Lanes, Fremont, with 35 employees, usually has $950,000 in annual revenue.
  • Spectrum Lanes & Woody's Press Box, Wyoming, with 80 employees, usually has $5.5 million in annual revenue.
