CHICAGO -- The National Automatic Merchandising Association has named Sharon Treadway, owner of McNabb Vending, to its Nutrition Leadership Committee. Treadway is a 19-year industry veteran, and operates vending machines on state property in the Nashville, TN, area. Her first micromarket opens this month.

Treadway has served as secretary of the National Association of Blind Merchants for five years, and was a board member for four years. She also is president of the Tennessee Association of Blind Merchants and is a member of the Healthy Vending subcommittee of the Tennessee Business Enterprises Committee of Blind Vendors.

NAMA vice-president of public relations and marketing Roni Moore said McNabb's experience as a blind vendor working with government locations will bring an important perspective to the table, and her knowledge of healthy vending issues will be an asset to the group.

"As an operator working with state properties, nutrition is an issue I deal with every day because my locations require that a certain percentage of products meet nutritional criteria," Treadway said. "I am eager to work toward finding a balance between offering better-for-you choices to our customers and protecting vendors' ability to maintain the profit margins they need to run a successful business."

Formed in 2014, NAMA's Nutrition Leadership Committee is comprised of industry professionals from around the country including Craig Hesch, A.H. Management Group (Rolling Meadows, IL); Bill Jensen, Jensen Marketing LLC/Mesilla Valley Snacks (Las Cruces, NM); Rod Nester, Smith Vending (Clarina, IA); and Mark Stein, Mark Vend Co. (Northbrook, IL). It provides guidance on best practices for delivering important nutrition information and better-for-you choices to consumers.
