Washington County, Maryland is home to three vending machines dispensing free doses of Narcan which can reverse opioid overdoses.

The vending machines, at three different locations, are funded through the Washington County Health Department via a Maryland Department of Health grant called "Overdose Data-to-Action," according to a Herald-Mail Media report.

One machine is outside the behavioral health services offices on N. Burhans Blvd, the second is inside the emergency department at the Meritus Medical Center and a third is located within the Washington County Free Library.

They will be stocked by the end of this week, according to the report.

"These locations are key to having Narcan and the other products available in the vending machines right where someone may have the greatest need — when leaving the hospital or coming to the health department for harm reduction services," Vicki Sterling, director of behavioral health services, told the news outlet. "When resources like this are readily available, we are empowering individuals with what they need, right where they are and fostering a community that is prepared and resilient."
