DENVER -- Marley Coffee has renewed a multiyear deal with MCEU Ltd. to distribute and market its retail, foodservice and capsule coffee across the European Union. The company entered the European market in 2012 and said it is pursuing the EU single serve market with the development of biodegradable and recyclable Nespresso-compatible capsules.

"Similarly to Marley Coffee's launch of the innovative EcoCup recyclable capsules which addresses single serve waste in the predominant brewing system in the U.S. and Canada, we feel there is a significant opportunity to offer a better choice for consumers who love the convenience of Nespresso single serve, but are also are environmentally aware," said Marley Coffee UK brand manager Guy Wilmot.

He said the company anticipates the launch of the biodegradable capsules will be the catalyst to for widespread grocery distribution in Europe, in the same way EcoCup is supporting retail penetration in the U.S.

Denver-based Marley's coffee is currently distributed in the UK, Ireland, France, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Russia, with more European distribution deals to be announced shortly.

MCEU Ltd., through the new five-year deal, represents the brand across multiple channels, including retail, foodservice, hospitality and online sales.

Its current European offering is a range of organic retail and foodservice blends, with expansion of the portfolio to continue with the introduction of 100% Rainforest Alliance Certified products, RealCup single-serve capsules for office coffee service and Marley Coffee's specialty beverage vending machines.

The company recently expanded distribution in the UK with the number of distributors in the independent grocery/health food space increasing from four to seven. The company said it also is on track to hit another milestone in Europe with its first major supermarket listing.
