A Lisbon, Maine, business is under investigation in connection with a gambling machine that authorities say may have been operated illegally in the nearby town of Gardiner, according to a CentralMaine.com report. Gardiner police, the Maine Gambling Control Unit and Lisbon police executed a search warrant Monday at the Lisbon business, where police vehicles and a U-Haul truck were seen in the parking lot.

The investigation began after the Gambling Control Unit notified Gardiner police in January about a machine suspected of accepting cash and dispensing collectible cards with potential monetary value. Gardiner police Sgt. Kaleb Marston said licensed nonprofit organizations may legally operate such machines, but for-profit businesses may not.

Authorities previously seized the machine as part of the investigation. No charges have been filed, and officials have not publicly identified the Lisbon business. The Maine Gambling Control Unit did not immediately respond to a request for additional information.
