The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office in Donaldsonville, Louisiana is taking a unique approach to promoting literacy and positive behavior among young people.

A book vending machine, located at the Hickley M. Waguespack Center and Study Commons, now offers free books to children who earn special coins by performing good deeds, according to a WBRZ report.

Sheriff Bobby Webre believes education is key to a brighter future. "Everything we can do to improve literacy, especially among our kids, we want to be a part of that," Webre told the news outlet. By providing access to books, the sheriff's office hopes to inspire children and steer them towards positive paths.

The vending machine, a donation from Atmos Energy, is an expansion of the Sheriff's Office Prime Time Reading Program.
