Malmaison, a U.K. hotel chain, will install a vending machine in London that will dispense alcohol, according to a boutiquehotelier.com report. The machine allows customers to purchase product using their smartphone to scan a QR code that provides a visual interface. The product, once purchased, falls into a sterilized delivery tray.
VendEase Ltd., the vending company that will service the machine, already provides vending machines to hotels for snacks and meals.
Guests are issued a pin code or a dedicated fob to unlock the selections in the machine.
The 42-inch screen can interact with third party service providers such as tourist attractions, gyms, ticket sales and parking.
The machine uses a standard power outlet and all data is sent over the mobile phone network.
The machine has allowed the company to save cost on its mini bar, said Paul Greenhalgh, Malmaison procurement director.
A UV-C light beam is under development to sanitize the machine.
