Little Caesars Automates Pickup With Pizza Portal Vending Machine

DETROIT -- Little Caesars customers can now skip the line and retrieve their orders hot and fresh within seconds of entering a store from its new Pizza Portal vending machine. The Reserve-N-Ready system, as the Detroit-based pizza chain calls its automated process, combines mobile ordering, prepayment and self-service pickup. 

Customers place an order and pre-pay via the Little Caesars mobile app, which notifies them when the order is ready. When they arrive at the store, they skip the line and go directly to the Pizza Portal and input a three-digit PIN or scan a QR code. The door on the customer's secured compartment then opens, and they retrieve their order.

The Reserve-N-Ready system is in test at a few stores and will expand to other markets later this year. Little Caesars is planning a national rollout in 2018.

Little Caesars said it co-developed its hot holding system with Mason, OH-based Apex Supply Chain Technologies LLC, an automated-dispensing technology specialist.

"The genuine purpose behind integrating advanced technology into our stores is all about improving the customer experience, and building on our convenience and quality," said Little Caesars president and chief executive David Scrivano. "We've spent a lot of time thinking about how to mesh mobile with our Hot-N-Ready model to improve on 'The World's Easiest Way to Pizza.'"
