Liberty Coca-Cola intros paper packaging to replace plastic rings

Liberty Coca-Cola Beverages has introduced its KeelClip paperboard packaging system that replaces the plastic ring holders on can multipacks, according to a press release. Philadelphia based Liberty partnered with fiber-based consumer packaging provider Graphic Packing International to manufacture the new packaging and will be delivering across the Philadelphia market.
The KeelClip machinery has been installed at one of Liberty's New York production facilities.
The KeelClip equipment has already been distributed through other local Coca-Cola bottlers in Europe.
The transition is expected to remove 75,000 pounds of plastic packaging per year from the supply chain for approximately 3.1 million cases across Liberty's service area, which includes Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York City and parts of Connecticut and Delaware.
