TORINO, Italy -- Lavazza has launched what it claims is the first 100% compostable capsule for espresso machines.
The pod is made by Italian biopolymer company Novamont. It is made with Mater-Bi 3G, a patented bioplastic material produced from wild thistle and certified for organic recycling according to EU compostable packaging standards.
The capsules will be available at the end of 2015 in two blends.
