Hotel-casino operators in Las Vegas have accelerated their adoption of automated technology to cut back on human-to-human interactions, a hazard in the age of COVID-19, according to a Las Vegas Journal Review report.
Jeremy Aguero, an economist at Applied Analysis, said there is no doubt COVID-19 has served as a catalyst for change since it has required companies to consider automation for every point of human interaction.
Industy experts interviewed said self-service technology will continue to accelerate, including self check-in kiosks, robotic bartenders, ordering tablets as obvious examples.
Wynn Resorts Ltd. has added check-in kiosks, a digital resort directory sent via text or QR code, a food ordering system at fast casual restaurants and tap-and-pay options, an online reservation system and digital menus at all restaurants, said spokesperson Deanna Pettit-Irestone.
